George McKay

Master Tailor George McKay retired from the Army after 25 years service with the Scots Guards, 20 years as a tailor, with the last 10 as the Master Tailor Scots Guards. He retired at the top of his trade as the Senior Master Tailor Household Division.
During his career he managed a busy tailor shop in London District, Germany and Catterick Garrison, working to tight deadlines.  George was responsible for the tailoring of numerous uniforms for occasions such as ceremonial duties which included the State opening of Parliament, Major General Inspections and the Queen’s Birthday Parade.
George can also boast that in 2008 he designed and had approved, the updated wearing of Court mounting of medals, which was successfully accepted as a Tri-service policy.
George is the first ever Military Tailor to receive a distinction in all four military tailor’s courses, which to this day has still not been matched.  George also holds a distinction in Highland Dress and Hand Craft Tailoring (City and Guilds).

Medal Mounting

  • All Medals are mounted in accordance with JSP’s.
  • We DO NOT use tape or glue.
  • All court mounted medal ribbons are machined on to woven buckram and the brooch and Medals are hand sewn down.
  • Medals can be either loose mounted or court mounted.
  • All medals that come into our workshop are cleaned prior to mounting.
  • We can also supply full size and miniature medals.
